About our centre

Our centre is part of the NSW Department of Education’s Environmental Education Centres network. We offer a variety of curriculum based environmental education programs for Kindergarten through to Year 12. We aim to engage and challenge students while contributing to their development as responsible and environmentally literate citizens.

Our environment

Longneck Lagoon EEC is located on Whitmore Road, Maraylya, in Scheyville National Park, 12 km north of Windsor. The national park comprises 952 hectares of remnant Cumberland Plain Woodland including a 17 hectare freshwater lagoon which provides a range of sites for studying the physical, cultural and historical features of the site. Scheyville National Park has a significant Aboriginal and European history. There are several Aboriginal sites located around the lagoon including middens and camp sites. European history dates back to 1794 when the area formed part of the Nelson Common. The impact of this land use can be observed around the Longneck Lagoon catchment.

Working with schools

We work with all NSW public and non-government schools. Schools can book our centre for our co-curricular learning programs and teacher professional development.

Learning programs

We run hands-on incursion and excursion programs for primary and secondary students, that are delivered by trained teachers who are experts in environmental education. Our programs link to the curriculum and can be modified to suit a variety of student needs.

Many of our programs also include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. Students learn about culture, Country and the sustainable management of environments.
