Entomologist for a day
Stage 3 - Inspire - High potential gifted education program
Program
This program focuses on the Intellectual and Creative Domains. Stage 3 students build on their Science and Technology knowledge and skills as they step into the role of an entomologist for the day! Working alongside a practising entomologist, students investigate the fascinating world of invertebrates, exploring their ecology, anatomy, classification and unique adaptations. Through hands-on investigations and close observation of live specimens, students deepen their scientific understanding before applying their learning to design and construct a detailed invertebrate model to take home.
Important information
Students will:
- explore bushland habitats to locate invertebrates and identify evidence of their activity and habitat needs
- work with an entomologist to observe and investigate live and preserved invertebrate specimens
- compare anatomical features and classify invertebrates based on observable characteristics
- record scientific observations and evidence in a nature journal
- design and construct a detailed invertebrate model, explaining how its features support movement, feeding, defence and survival.
This program will be delivered once in 2027:
- Wednesday 3 March 2027
