Stage 2 - High potential and gifted education program
Program
This program focuses on the Creative Domain and is designed to develop student knowledge, skills and understanding in visual arts. Students will utilise the natural environment as inspiration using a range of media to create permanent and ephemeral artworks. Students will participate in discussions about the meaning and value of artworks by established artists and their own artworks.
Important information
Students will:
- examine and discuss the elements of art, experimenting with drawing techniques, pencil grades, and creating personal artist marks
- go on a nature walk to observe and collect natural items, then apply sketching skills to record shapes, textures and forms inspired by the natural environment
- create artworks from nature, including cyanotype prints using sunlight and natural materials, and collage art inspired by Jeannie Baker’s techniques
- explore ephemeral land art, designing temporary outdoor artworks using natural materials in the style of artists like Andy Goldsworthy and Jon Foreman.
This program will be delivered three times throughout 2026:
- Wednesday 18 March 2026 (Term 1, Week 8)
- Thursday 10 September 2026 (Term 3, Week 8)
- Wednesday 2 December 2026 (Term 4, Week 8)

This program is designed to cater for students from multiple schools. Please note that program capacity is capped at 24 students in total. Each school is able to nominate a maximum of 6 students per date.
| Vehicle access |
Address: 59 Whitmore Road, Maraylya Minibuses and visitors arriving by private car can enter the gates on Whitmore Road and drive part way down the drive to the signposted 'Visitor parking' area near the mud brick shed. It is a short 100m walk from the visitor parking area to the classroom and office area. We kindly ask that visitors do not drive beyond this point in order to ensure the safety of our students. |
| Student numbers |
Students from multiple schools will attend and participate collaboratively. The program can accommodate a total of 24 students, with each school able to nominate up to 6 students per date. |
| Visiting teachers | Teachers are welcome to accompany students, however this is not mandatory. Parents are welcome. |
| Adverse weather | On days where the weather is unsuitable, a Longneck Lagoon EEC staff member will contact the organising teacher to discuss alternative arrangements. |
| Medical notifications | Notify Longneck Lagoon EEC by completing and returning the student welfare form at least one week before the excursion. This form will be sent out upon confirmation of booking. |
