HPGE programs

Longneck Lagoon Environmental Education Centre offers a range of HPGE Enrichment Programs for students in primary schools. 

Stage 1 - Little Bird's Day

This program focuses on the Intellectual Domain and is designed to develop student knowledge, skills and understanding in the natural world. After reading 'Little Bird's Day' (Sally Morgan & Johnny Warrkatja Malibirr), students participate in a range of hands-on, exploratory activities and experiments to investigate weather changes. Students explore Australia's First People's seasonal calendars and compare these to western seasons.

Stages 2 & 3 - Superheroes of Nature

This program focuses on the Intellectual Domain and is designed to develop student knowledge, skills and understanding in the many wonders of the natural world. Students will compare their own abilities with the amazing feats of strength, movement, design and cooperation of other living things.

Stages 2 & 3 - Visual Arts in the Environment

This program focuses on the Creative Domain and is designed to develop student knowledge, skills and understanding in visual arts. Students will utilise the natural environment as inspiration using a range of media to create permanent and ephemeral artworks. Students will participate in discussions about the meaning and value of artworks by established artists and their own artworks.

Stage 2 - Who Killed Kermit?

This program focuses on the Intellectual Domain. Students learn the premise of scientific method then work in small teams to conduct a series of investigations in order to solve an ecological mystery. This program is delivered with a maximum of 12 students (4 students from 3 schools). 

 

This program is run on multiple dates throughout Terms 3 & 4 in 2025. Applications for participation are sent to schools at the end of Term 2.

Stage 3 - Treasure Trackers

This program focuses on the Intellectual Domain. The program is designed to develop skills in the use of a topographic map, compass and Global Positioning System (GPS). The program will also explore environmental issues and develop problem solving and teamwork skills. Students use their orienteering and mapping skills to locate and solve a series of puzzling treasures throughout the day. This program is delivered with a maximum of 12 students (4 students from 3 schools). 

 

This program is run on multiple dates throughout Terms 2 & 3 in 2025. Applications for participation are sent to schools at the end of Term 1.
